Friday, October 28, 2016 (Arlington, TX) – After months of previews with nearly a thousand early adopters, today the Navy Reserve formally made their new mobile application, Ready-2-Serve (R2S), available to all 58,000 members of the Force for use on their personal mobile devices.
Ready-2-Serve is a customized version of Thursby Software Systems’ popular Sub Rosa™ application. By choosing custom security features, the Navy Reserve was able to submit R2S to the Navy Authorizing Official (NAO) for an Authority to Operate (ATO). Paramount to this bring your own device (BYOD) effort is the ability to have zero data at rest (DAR) on the device. This means that no email or browsing history is stored on the phone, so if the device is lost or stolen there is no need to wipe the device or even worry about removing the app.
In addition to the usability and features that Thursby Software’s customers enjoy in Sub Rosa, R2S tailors the experience for Reserve members so they can quickly and securely navigate to the sites that matter most. When they first log-in, Reservists will see a custom screen that reflects their current status. From there, they have an easy to navigate menu that enables users to search for vacant billets and opportunities to mobilize, review readiness status, access training content, service and drill records, pay data, and check Navy email.
The Navy Reserve not only tapped into years of development experience but also many features not currently available in any other mobile browser by using Thursby Software’s Sub Rosa app as the base for development. Included in these are the Enhanced OWA Viewer for signing, encrypting, and decrypting email as well as the ability to access sites like Defense Travel Systems (DTS) that are not otherwise meant for mobile use. Combining these efforts brings a safe, secure, easy-to-use browser directly to the men and women who need it most.
Members of the Navy Reserve can register to access R2S here. Along with their purchase of the software licenses, Navy Reserve has also purchased Apple and Android Common Access Card (CAC) readers from Thursby Software. These Navy-issued CAC readers will be available at no cost to registered users.
R2S is currently available on the Apple App Store and Google Play. A demo video is also available for those who want to see the app in action before signing up. This revolutionary BYOD app is a first of its kind that promises to be essential to the Navy Reserve’s commitment to be: “Ready Now. Anytime, Anywhere.”
