Imaging CAC Card/Certificates

Post by TXNole » Sat Sep 08, 2018 1:32 am

Is there a way to either "image" the CAC Card or "save" the certificates so that I can access a CAC enabled website without physically putting in the CAC card into the reader every time? As the Macs don't have a "built-in" reader ... this would streamline things immensely.

Haven't seen this addressed anywhere.

Thanks.

No, that is not possible. The genius of the card is that the private information cannot be copied from the card ... ever. If you wanted a copy of the card, you would need to get the certificates from the original source or generate new certificates that matched. This idea has been discussed in great detail as "Derived Certificates".

Thanks!

One person's genius is another's frustration ;)

Will read up on "derived certificates" and resign myself to tracking down my CAC reader whenever I access my webmail.
