Error while trying to copy files

Postby MichelRenaud » Sun Sep 30, 2012 12:27 pm

Hi,

I'm currently evaluating DAVE v10. Things work well when accessing a Windows Home Server from the Mac. I turned on "DAVE Sharing" so that I would be able to access files on the Mac from the Windows Home Server. I'm able to connect to the share I've created and list the folders, subfolders etc..., but when I try to copy a file, I get this error:

The specified server cannot perform the requested operation

I'm able to view the content of the files (e.g. open a text file on the Mac using a text editor running on the Windows Home Server), but for some reason it won't let me copy. I'm having the same problem trying to do the same thing from a Windows 7 laptop.

The Mac is running Norton Internet Security, so I thought maybe it was a firewall issue - I disabled it temporarily but still get the same error. I've tried both "Local" and "Share level" security types in DAVE Sharing, same problem (no domain server here, so I can't try User level).

Edit: Interestingly, I cannot copy files from the share, but can DELETE files and folders on the share!

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Michel

Almost the same error occurs.
Mac: 10.7.5
Win: Windows 7
Share Level: User Level with domain

Before upgrading Mac to 10.7.5, all is good with DAVE9.
After upgrading to 10.7.5, just opening my Mac's shared folder from PC failed.
So I evaluated DAVE10 and was able to open shared folder.
Then I purchased it because all seemed good enough.
But actually copying files from PC to Mac's folder mounted on PC always fails.
Copying from PC to Mac succeeds.
Removing files fails.

Copying files to CIFS mounted on Mac fails, not always but often.

Am feeling your pain!

Have 2 computers:
Comp1 (with the files): Retina MBP 10.8.2 w/eNet via 27-inch Thunderbolt display, latest OS updates installed
Comp2 (needing the files): 27-inch iMac Bootcamp Win7x64, latest OS updates installed

Pre DAVE v10 install: could copy back and forth between Comp1 & Comp2, open and edit files. Only problem was that the connection seemed to constantly drop in and out, which meant I had to keep 'Saving As' while editing a network accessed document over a any period of time.

Post DAVE v10 install: While operating the Comp2 machine, I:
- CAN log onto the Comp1 shared folder and browse multiple folder levels
- Cannot open files directly from shared folder
- Cannot copy from Comp1 -> Comp2
- CAN copy from Comp2 -> Comp1
- Cannot delete files within shared folder from Comp2 (as mentioned in previous post)
- Consistently get error 0x8007003A from Windows

Have tried many combinations of native OSX File Sharing / SMB settings, in addition to turning DAVE on / off. Nothing seems to improve, or even get back to how things were pre-DAVE.

This issue is a major inconvenience to workflow and I will greatly appreciate assistance anyone can offer in finding a solution.

Please note that DAVE does not support any simultaneous use of Apple's built-in Windows Sharing or SMB client. This can cause any number of problems, including completely disabling DAVE. If you need to test Apple's built-in solutions, please uninstall DAVE using the provided uninstaller, then reinstall when your testing is complete.

Also, if you are experiencing a problem that is more than a minor configuration issue, please open a support call by emailing our Support Specialist at support@thursby.com. This forum is for user discussion of DAVE, and is not intended as a primary source of technical assistance.

Same issues for me. I am unsure how to disable the default Mac WebDav or SMB. I have turned off file sharing, but am still getting the copy/write errors. Hopefully someone is monitoring this thread so a resolution can be reached.

I am running MacPro 10.8, with Server.app Installed. I am sharing multiple folders and can read from them just fine (in some cases I am getting UserWebDAV Gateway authentication). I need a complete read/write, full user access with no login solution. I am currently using the DAVE trial download to determine if this solution is viable.

I have the same problem (Windows to Mac, error 0x8007003A from Windows). It happens only with certain files (espescially ZIP files, but not always), but also sometimes with "normal small" files. There is no apparent pattern, but this is reproducabable for a given file, when it does not work.
Using OSX 10.8.4 and Windows 8.

Very very cumbersome!

Update: I have reverted to an earlier built: "dave1001-1517.dmg" and with this one, the problem is much less present. A big difference!

Adequat,

Are you using Share Level security for your DAVE Sharing folders?

I use default settings, I did not change anything.
Where can I find the option you ask me about?

Adequat,

Please launch the System Preferences, then click the DAVE Sharing pane. What is the security level setting?
