SMB, Mavericks, and Active Directory via AdmitMac

Post by shanselm » Thu Jun 19, 2014 3:24 pm

We are working on getting our Mavericks clients integrated into Active Directory with network home spaces on either a Solaris or Linux file server. We are currently using RFC2307 attribute mappings in Active Directory and have had some success with mounting the home space and running applications. One issue that we are running into is that a number of files remain open for users on logout. In fact, the Mavericks 10.9.3 client does not ever close these open files, which ultimately prevents the home folder from being unmounted. We see the exact same behavior with a home space located on the Windows 2012 Active Directory server. Again, the Mavericks client keeps numerous files open on logout and never terminates the SMB connections to the server. I foresee this causing problems when students move from client to client as well as causing problems on our servers since the number of open files will quickly multiply. I have searched for support documents regarding this issue, but have found nothing substantial to date.
