Question mark in Dock

Post by nealh75 » Thu Aug 07, 2014 10:10 am

We have installed DAVE 11 on a number of clients running Mavericks 10.9 to improve Windows file sharing. These clients are "managed" via an Open Directory server, which is pushing out MCX preferences. One of these preferences is to mount the users' network home directory on login. Doing this creates a folder icon in the Dock next to the Trash which opens that users' home directory. Installing DAVE seems to break this icon and it changes to a question mark. We have worked around this manually creating a new shortcut/alias/link to the user's home directory and dropping this into the Favorites bar in the Finder but it would be nice for the Dock icon to work, any idea why this is happening?

The Dock icon setting you are describing is going to assume that Apple's built-in SMB client (smbfs) is in use. Since DAVE uses our cifs, the icon in the Dock will not function as expected.

Are the Macs connecting to an Active Directory environment? If so, you may want to look at ADmitMac, our AD client. ADmitMac can auto-mount the user's network home folder on login by checking a checkbox. As with DAVE, the trial is free and fully functional.
