Reader and iPhone cases

iPhone CAC Reader development team:

Did you consider that a vast majority of the force wants to protect their phone, and most own Otter Boxes? The bezel extension on the iPhone CAC reader is just too wide and too short to accommodate that, rendering the reader incompatible, unless the otter box is removed. My iPhone must be "naked" in order for me to use the reader, and that makes me very very nervous. That, and it's a PITA to take an otter box off.

My 2c. Unless you folks have developed a short (3" or so) extension cable?

We did consider that, and we've had discussions with case manufacturers about solutions that we think our end users would appreciate. We'll continue to search for the perfect solution. Until then, we use this type of device in our office:

And while I don't expect anyone to change their case (especially from OtterBox), I really like my Elago case because of the minimal size and the ability to access the Lightning connector without an extender. Here's an example:

Thanks for the response, Carl. I'll have to look into that extender. Not optimal, but it'll do. I'm glad to know the idea was considered enough that you even have this response ready at a moment. I'm certain it will be a sticking point with a lot of sailors, and hopefully they'll come here to see what's available.

Thanks again, and aside from the dock connector thing, everything works as advertised, and way better than I expected. I can actually Navy again, without going through a contortionist's act! (other than removing my otter box for now)
