Can't do initial setup

iPhone 5s, iOS 10.2.1: I can't get past the initial welcome screen that instructs me to insert the reader and card. When I insert it, nothing happens. No lights come on. I try to tap "R2S App Reset" and still nothing happens. I have restarted the phone multiple times with and without the reader plugged in. Still the same result. Please help.

Does your phone have a case on it? Are you using an adapter or extender when you connect the reader to your phone?

Well, there it is. It does have a case, and when I removed the case, the reader apparently had further to go to be fully seated. Now it works without the case. Thanks!
