What card reader do you use?

Postby carl » Wed Aug 03, 2011 10:39 am

I think it would be helpful for our users if we could keep a list of what card readers you've used along with which work and which don't. You can reply to this topic with details or just PM me with any information you'd like to provide.

We use the following readers in-house (all work with Snow Leopard thru Yosemite):

The following readers are not supported due to an OS X limitation:

  • EZ100PU Smart Card Reader
  • ActivIdentity USB Reader v2.0
  • Stanley Global SGT118

This site also provides details on USB Smart Card Readers

Please refer to the card readers' manufacturer for OS X compatibility.

We've had a number of customers ask about the ActivCard USB v2. This card reader is no longer manufactured or supported, and no driver information is available later than 2003.

Based on the age of the card reader and on user experience, it is assumed that this card reader does not work with recent versions of the Mac OS.

We've had a few customers ask about the iogear GSR202.

{EDIT}
Most are not able to get this card reader to work, but we have had some reports of it working quite well. We are trying to determine what might cause this reader to not work as expected

The IOGear GSR202 reader did not exist in 2006. It has only been on the market for less than 1 year. In my tests, I only had an issue with 10.4.11, it works just fine with all flavors of 10.5.x (Leopard)-10.7.x (Lion).

Chief,

Thanks for the update. I've edited my post above until we have more information.

If you don't mind, we may be contacting you to try and gather more about this card reader.

Please try the instructions in the topic "CAC card not recognized" and let us know what you find.

PKard assistant recognizes Iogear gsr202 but the reader does not recognize the CAC card

The CAC version is:Oberthur ID one 128 v5.5 Dual
Following the instructions from the thread CAC card not recognized the command top was entered and PKard ran and continued to run but the continue button was still unavailable.

Open Terminal and enter the following two commands:
sudo touch /Library/Logs/com.thursby.pki
sudo chmod 666 /Library/Logs/com.thursby.pki

I followed the steps and sent the log and some other pertenint information to your support email. hopefully I can get this thing to work, if not then i will most likely.

torrezwilliams,
I cannot find a call logged for you. If you've received a response from our automated system, then things are working as they should. Otherwise, you may want to resend the file and problem description.
